希臘 一項研究發現,每天狂飲可樂可能會導致肌肉乏力、心跳失調,甚至癱瘓。事緣飲用大量可樂會導致低血鉀症,血中鉀水平急降,部份人的症狀不一,由輕微的肌肉乏力、便秘以致癱瘓不等。
希臘約阿尼納大學( University of Ioannina)研究人員在《國際臨床實習個案》(International Journal of Clinical Practice)上撰文指出,有病人每天飲兩至十公升可樂後,便出現上述症狀。
其中一名二十一歲孕婦每天都飲三公升可樂,出現疲倦、失去食欲、經常嘔吐及心律不整。驗血發現,她血液內的鉀水平過低。另一名孕婦過去十個月日飲七公升可樂,之後出現肌肉乏力,並患上低鉀症。
另一名澳洲 農民過去四年每天飲四公升可樂,之後日飲十公升可樂,之後血中鉀水平急降,肌肉無力,但病人在戒飲可樂後都可以很快回復正常。
因此研究人員告誡家庭醫生,一旦發現病人出現肌肉乏力問題,便應注意,看看是否和狂飲可樂有關。

2. although acidosis could lead to potassium being exchanged with hydrogen ions, causing a rise in [K]e.....
3. insulin release due to glucose intake also takes potassium into the cells (as a feedforward response because usual eating will lead to increase in both plasma potassium and glucose)
4. hypokalaemia will cause muscle weakness because the low potassium will hyperpolarise the membranes (GHK equation: E=58log{([K]e+[Na]e+[Cl]i)/([K]i+[Na]i+[Cl]e)} ) so it is more difficult to depolarise the nerves and muscles. could lead to cardiac arrythmia if serious
